Bio:

Peter Cheney is a New York based contemporary artist living and working in Rockland County. Peter's paintings are primarily Acrylics on Canvas , but he frequently uses a variety of added materials to develop texture and depth. He also has been known to create onsite large-scale interactive installations. Some of his paintings are representational, some are landscapes, and some have vague allusions to biblical stories, while others represent scientific concepts of space and time and how the two things really are one. Statement:

These pictures are all in their own way about the dark and mysterious aspects of existence. The Allegory of the Cave is from the writings of Plato and shows the transition from ignorance to knowledge or wisdom. The Flatwoods Monster is an interpretation of West Virginia Folklore: some kind of spooky story that may have been an owl or ghost or angel or hallucination, or we might never know what. Music In The Air is just that, a space in a hallway or gallery garden with windows, doors, skylights, that may lead out or in or to nowhere at all. Some of the openings are filled with the music of Mozart, pages ripped from a book I found years ago and have been using ever since as collage material.
