Bio:
John Cote has recently transitioned from a forty year career as a full time storyboard artist to focusing primarily on his paintings. His most recent solo exhibition has been at the Croton Free Library in Croton on Hudson. He has shown regionally, most notably at Silvermine Arts Center in CT, Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, Arts Center of Northern Westchester and the Society of Illustrators in NYC. Nine paintings will be showing in Philozoic Gestures at BAU Gallery in Beacon September 11-October 3rd.
Statement:
I enjoy depicting animals. They are emotive. They can be troubled, overworked, sad, desperate. They can also be sweet. And in the great narrative tradition I was schooled in, they can act as stand-ins for the human condition while remaining themselves.
