Rob Decina
Exit
Mixed media
12 x 12 inches
More info:
"EXIT," stark, architectural perspective lines collide with raw, excavated textures to create a tense, psychological threshold. I used colored rice paper in the doorway and wet/scraped it to get the blending visual. I wanted to create a mysterious room with only one way out, but that Exit may actually be more dangerous if taken.

Statement:
All art forms are about seeking the truth to tell a story, and that truth has many layers. I build every canvas by layering, sometimes over old paintings and discarded stories—starting with a solid color, adding paper for tactile texture, and using palette knives, spatulas, and paper towels to add paint and then wipe paint away. The goal is to reveal truthful elements underneath. While every piece begins with a concept, I let the canvas take me where it wants to go.
