Bio:
Born and raised in the South Bronx housing projects, Barbara Ringer pursued cinema studies at New York University. After a career in video production in New York, Germany, and Switzerland, she devoted her practice to fine art photography. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout New York, Connecticut, and Florida. She is an active member of the Silvermine Artists Guild, Westport Artists Collective, and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists.
Statement:
"I grew up in the South Bronx projects using a doll to speak for me when I couldn't find my own voice. Later, I lost myself in the dark psychological landscapes of Hitchcock, Bergman, and Buñuel—filmmakers who understood that our deepest fears live just beneath the surface of everyday life.
Now I am a photo-based artist who uses dolls, toys, and often myself to construct narratives where trauma either has or is about to happen."
