“When we give ourselves forward, there’s always a bit left behind… “ Pieces of Me is a collection of 5 x 3 in creations using watercolor, ink, and photo transfer. Each piece is representative of sharing bits of myself to those around me through artwork and actions. There’s a feeling when you something you create is collected by another person… I’m usually elated to find that validation in someone else desiring my work. There’s also a feeling of loss of a part of myself that creates bittersweet emotions. Unseen hours of life go into creating work and the action of passing it on to another is much like saying, “Here’s my time and energy and essentially a part of my life essence for you. I gratefully give it and will wonder how it is from time to time.” As a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend and community member, this feels like how every action in life should be considered and essentially cared for. When we give ourselves forward, there’s always a bit left behind.
