More info
Motivity is all about the power of movement and creation. This mixed media artwork brings back memories of my magazine publishing days visiting huge web offset printing presses, touring production floors with paper rolls whipping through machines, binders getting everything squared up, and warehouse equipment zooming to meet deadlines.
This piece is made with acrylic paints, wood veneers in maple, red oak, and walnut, dyed corks, and woven grass papers.
Artist Bio
Lisa Penny is a Mixed Media artist working with a wide variety of materials. Her journey began with a BA in Marketing and graphic design for publishing and content. Her personal artwork path began with textile arts before expanding into mixed materials and painting. During the COVID-19 pandemic and eldercare, her work embraced more non-objective abstraction, creating deconstructive creations that reflect the era’s emotional depth and transformation. Influenced by Fauvism and Orphism, she combines color and 3-dimensional materials to evoke rich textures. Lisa's work has exhibited in galleries and museums, has been featured in books, magazines, and digital publications, and is enjoyed in private collections internationally. She is a signature member of The National Association of Women Artists (NAWA).
Artist Statement
My abstract mixed media practice is rooted in the concept of rebuilding, as both a tangible process and a metaphor for transformation. Rebuilding acknowledges what has been lost while opening paths toward renewal, resilience, and new possibilities. In these post-pandemic years, we all have faced a reckoning of our lives and social systems. This balance between memory, history, and reinvention is central to my work.
Influenced by artists such as Matisse, Sonia Delaunay, and Kandinsky, I draw on an impressionist’s sensitivity to light while engaging the dynamic energy of abstraction. I incorporate the color palettes of Fauvism, the rhythmic
geometry of Orphism, and structural elements of Cubism to create a visual language that contrasts intuitive expression and precise construction.
