Artist Bio
Joanne resides in South Salem, NY. She earned a BFA in Fine Arts and a MA, masters in Art Education. She has taught Art in public schools in NYC and Westchester County. She also worked over ten years as an art therapist in special education, as well as in private settings, and currently teaches art at a local preschool. Joanne has explored a wide range of media throughout her creative practice and currently focuses on watercolor and oil painting. Her work has been exhibited in local galleries, private events, and venues throughout NY, CT, and MA, and is held in numerous public and private collections. She is a member of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, and The Carriage Barn Art Center.
Artist Statement
Still Life explores the fragments of life, rather than telling a single story, the work offers moments of pause that ask for attention. Together, these paintings suggest that life is built through small acts of balance and care, often unnoticed, but essential. By elevating the ordinary these paintings invite reflection on how fragility and resilience coexist in everyday life.

Curator’s Note: Joanne Ponzo’s artwork has the essence of familiarity, but slightly turns it on its head. The beautifully captured peppers are rendered so well against a beautiful wallpaper background, but the unexpected composition the act of “taping” them to the wall is entertaining and interesting. The tea cups precariously balanced in Steeping gives the viewer both comfort in the domesticity of the image, but that one solitary tea makes me question how often they are used to welcome company. There’s a delicateness to idea of preparing for moments and sharing them with others.
