For just a moment no one is fighting, everyone has something sweet, and fancy dresses and best shirts are protected by plastic smocks I can almost feel. It will not last.

Artist Statement
These works, part of a series produced largely in the isolation of the pandemic, are a reflection on the things time takes from us made during a period when time seemed to stand still. They are an exploration of the preciousness of the mundane and a seeking after answers to nagging questions. What do we value? What do we record? Where is the evidence of the human connection, care, and tenderness we show each other in our most unguarded moments? What is it that makes a moment worthy of notice, of remembrance? These paintings are odes to nostalgia, to loved ones and opportunities lost, an honoring of the threads that hold us together and the moments that create a lifetime
Curator’s Note:
Cindy Sumerano’s delightful piece is a treasured little moment of quiet happiness between the times of rambunctiousness and bickering. It’s feels like joy and and just as sweet as the cake on the plates of the youthful dinner guests. Sumerano has wonderfully captured the contentment in the expressions of the children. There’s a feel of nostalgia and endearment throughout with her choice of color and the moment seems to glow from within.
