Artist Statement:
My name is Matthew Franz, and I am an artist concentrating on geometric abstract and hard edge painting. I grew up in the 1980’s in Philadelphia, PA, and have always been inspired by the bright colors, heavy dimensions, and bold lines of the graffiti scene of that era.
I was born into a creative family, and love for the arts was instilled in me from a very young age. Painting has always been my creative outlet and my concentration on geometric abstract allows me to foster my obsession with color. I have pivoted from painting as a hobby to now painting as my vocation, as I am passionate about creating a feeling of communication and connection through art.
My pieces are created to join together bright colors, bold lines, and angular shapes to create luminous and daring pieces. My work draws your eyes in and then compels you to create a narrative of excitement and energy.
Artist's Bio
,,
Originating from Philadelphia and coming up during the vibrant 1980s, Matthew draws profound inspiration from the vivid palettes, substantial forms, and assertive strokes inherent in the graffiti milieu of that period. Currently refining their craft in the artistic community of Ridgefield, CT, he has found a nurturing environment to continue his creative journey.
His artistic style serves as a visual manifestation of the innermost sparks of his spirit, capturing an unwavering commitment to absolute independence and expressing his innate emotions through the language of bold color, cubism, and geometric abstraction. Coming from a creative family, he nurtured a lifelong passion for the arts. Geometric abstraction lets him channel his love for color and shift from art as a hobby to his vocation, aiming to foster connection and communication. His pieces fuse vivid colors, bold lines, and angular shapes, resulting in luminous and energetic narratives.
